It might have been a short trading week, but I’m only sorry to see Friday show up because I don’t want it to end!

This has been some of the best trading I’ve seen in years! So before we dive into the latest New Money Crew Weekend Watchlist names, let’s take a lap…

For two weeks now I’ve done my best in every video, every Roundtable and every TV appearance to blow my bullhorn as I shout from the mountaintops about one thing — growth stocks. And I’m not talking about the big FAANG tech stocks — even if Wiretap Alerts and Weekly Trade Alliance both scored wins on Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL)… 

I’m talking about the highly shorted, high-beta, stuck-in-the-mud Cathie Wood Ark fund stocks — grade-A junk!

New Money Crew Weekend Watchlist: June 24, 2022

After two of the worst weeks traders have seen since the beginning of the pandemic, the markets opened up in a big way these past four trading days.

And — like we talked about last week — as long as the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSEArca: XLE) keeps trending lower, these junk names will have room to squeeze higher.

With that in mind, I have three new tickers for New Money Crew readers to throw on the Weekend Watchlist!

First up, New Money Crew sets its sights on Exelixis Inc. (Nasdaq: EXEL). Exelixis is a small genomic drug company focused on cancer treatments. This week, the company announced it’s starting phase 3 trials of its latest intestinal cancer treatment that’s helped it catch fire along with the rest of the biotech sector. 

Shares are up more than 25% since June 17, and we noted bullish buyers swept in to grab fistfuls of the August monthly call options in Wednesday’s Blitz Daily video!

Next up, New Money Crew is jumping right into the thick of it and adding Roblox Corp. (NYSE: RBLX) to our Weekend Watchlist. The firm makes platform that skyrocketed in popularity during the pandemic lockdowns. 

As far as the news goes, there isn’t much to like… The platform’s latest numbers show revenue for May fell around 10% year over year while daily active users declined over 20% in the same period. But that hasn’t kept this garbage stock from squeezing into the stratosphere!

While the $10 gain since June 16 barely makes a dent in the peak $80 loss shareholders have sustained so far in 2022… The institutional traders who scooped up the July 15 expiration, $22.50 strike calls got in just in time to enjoy a 40% explosion in the underlying stock — BANG! 

Moves like this are why we follow the flow — and why the bulls keep coming back for more of those sweet, sweet gains!

Closing out the Weekend Watchlist for New Money Crew is Affirm Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: AFRM). Similar to Roblox, AFRM is another growth stock feeling the squeeze this week, up around 40% since June 16. And also like RBLX, the payments business doesn’t have much of anything in the way of good news. In fact, the buy now, pay later space is starting to get more crowded now that Apple has entered the fray.

Of course, the similarities don’t end there, either — my scanners have also spotted repeat bullish call buying in this options chain!

It’s important to keep in mind these aren’t companies we want to buy and hold — which is why I called them “junk”!

But for now, it doesn’t matter that their fundamentals are awful… And never mind that the charts on these stocks have been terrible leading up to these breakouts. What matters is they’re squeezing higher, and we want to sell the rips.

This is not a market and these are not stocks to fall in love with and hold on forever — like I mentioned in my latest appearance on Cheddar. This market isn’t going to give us a penny. So it’s up to traders to get in, take what we can, get out and never look back!

But one sector lagging behind is one we’ve been watching closely all week — Energy.

Since Tuesday’s feature, the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSEArca: XLE) fell another 10%, bringing its slide to more than 21% over the past two weeks.

While some gurus were squawking about how strong the sector was and how traders could  hide out there from this volatility storm, our Project X strategy jumped on a short signal on Warren Buffet’s pet oil stock, Occidental Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: OXY), later that same Monday.

Fast forward to Thursday and OXY shares dropped 6%, allowing the strategy to exit for a solid 25%* return in three days, beating both our average 11-day holding period and clearing our 8% average return — including all winning and losing trades — since inception going back to Feb. 25!

That wasn’t the only short play New Money Crew capitalized on as markets plummeted — our Wiretap Alerts strategy kicked off the week with two fantastic wins on Nikola Corp. (Nasdaq: NKLA) and Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE)!

New Money Crew Weekend Watchlist: June 17, 2022

You know the talking heads all have “recession” hanging on their lips. Now, I’m not an economist, but from what I’ve seen so far in 2022, they’ve all gotten it wrong.  Now that they’re all saying recession, will they get that wrong, too? I’m looking for opportunities, so what can bounce back? 

Autos, travel stocks… even retailers. 

So leading off the Weekend Watchlist for New Money Crew, we have General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM). Shares are up slightly after dropping more than 8% Thursday. I mentioned in Blitz Daily that we saw some short-term July calls hit the tape, and GM ripped over 3% at one point Friday. 

Institutional buyers are looking for a bounce back in the auto names and so am I. On top of the big GM buy, we also had some Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) calls hit. I’m a big fan of the sector here, especially if energy continues to tank and we get a break in gas prices — that would be great news for travel-correlated names like autos. So be on the lookout.

Another area that I see benefitting from a tumble in energy is retail. Specifically, I’m looking at luxury retailers. Last week, we put Nordstrom Inc. (NYSE: JWN) on our radar and the New Money Crew Weekend Watchlist can add another mega luxury retailer — Capri Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: CPRI). Traders want to keep a close eye on the luxury stuff — not the cheap junk out there. We want the Versace’s and Jimmy Choo’s, which is what Capri brings to the fold.

At the start of June, the company murdered its quarterly earnings, beating consensus estimates by 25% with $1.02 earnings per share and a growing profit margin. The earnings event also saw leadership announce a $1 billion stock buyback program. As a result, we’ve seen recent spikes in unusual options activity in the July dated options. 

Outside of luxury retail, I like Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) here for the final spot on the New Money Crew Weekend Watchlist. If energy continues to dip, a company with the transportation challenges of Amazon is in line to benefit. 

Shares already gave up all of the gains from the run-up into its split rally, and traders should be watching for a near-term bounce. Thursday saw the company announce the dates for this year’s Prime Day event in mid-July and that’s helped drive a surge of institutional order flow for the king of retailers.

We’re looking to close the books on another choppy week, which means it’s time to talk about our book and set traders up for Monday with the New Money Crew Weekend Watchlist!

Thursday’s relief rally set the stage for markets to see back-to-back weeks of gains — though Friday’s jobs report spoiled the party.

Regardless of whether the major indexes finish in the red or green, we’re starting to see some good signs in the market.

New Money Crew Weekend Watchlist: June 3, 2022

Kicking off the Weekend Watchlist, New Money Crew is headed to beautiful, balmy Brazil with StoneCo Ltd. (Nasdaq: STNE). 

OK, so it’s almost the dead of winter in Sao Paulo, but this fintech’s first-quarter figures were scorching hot! Riding a surge in payments volume, StoneCo posted year-over-year growth in revenue and EBITDA of 138% and 116%, respectively — and it’s expecting even better results for Q2! 

This is fantastic news for StoneCo and an encouraging sign for the payments space that has struggled against inflationary headwinds. Shares of STNE are up over 20% since Wednesday’s close, and it saw some big short-term call buying.

Next, New Money Crew and the Weekend Watchlist looks to Smith & Wesson Brands Inc. (Nasdaq: SWBI). The past few weeks have turned up the heat on the gun debate in the U.S. after a series of tragic shootings in Buffalo, Uvalde and Tulsa. 

It’s also an election year, which means every elected official from the president to your local dog catcher is champing at the bit to tell you what they think about it. 

Like it or not, whenever the political pressure ramps up over gun violence or during election cycles, firearm stocks tend to see spikes in trading volume and volatility. 

So it isn’t a surprise that we’ve seen unusual bullish activity in short-term SWBI options in the past two weeks.

Our final addition to the New Money Crew Weekend Watchlist is ChargePoint Holdings Inc. (NYSE: CHPT). If you’ve been keeping up with Blitz Daily, then you already know about its surprising 102% jump in revenue from Q1 2021, and Thursday’s move that settled for a 12% gain…

But what you may not know is that shares continued to climb Friday, even as other tech and EV names saw massive sell-offs.

Leaked emails from Tesla Inc. (Nasdaq: TSLA) CEO Elon Musk about wanting to cut his staff by 10% at the top EV company hit headlines Friday…

Musk’s email paints a wildly different picture of EV prospects just a day after Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) announced it will commit around $5 billion to bolster manufacturing facilities and add over 6,000 jobs.

Even with the markets down, ChargePoint added another 6% to an already stellar post-earnings breakout Friday — if the EV space can build on its momentum, don’t be shocked if ChargePoint makes a move toward its 200-day moving average.

Markets are squeezing higher Friday as we approach the end of May.

And two of our New Money Crew Weekend Watchlist members are among the names feeling the late-week squeeze…

Shares of Rivian Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: RIVN) jumped as much as 11% from Monday’s open while PayPal Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: PYPL) shot up around 5.5% Friday!

Barring some kind of catastrophic breakdown, the major indexes will end the week in the green for the first time in two months.

This is not the kind of market we’re used to seeing, so don’t expect volatility to go away any time soon…

Especially when it gives market makers an opportunity to drain volatility out of options chains like it did this week with Gap Inc. (NYSE: GPS).

And even though we’ve taken some lumps, the New Money Crew strategies have put another solid week in the books…

We didn’t see the fireworks we had last week with Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT), but Wiretap, Weekly Blitz, and Alpha Sweep alerts each scooped up meat-and-potatoes returns while Project X got off to a hot start with a nice win in Suncor Energy Inc. (NYSE: SU) calls!

Blitz Daily readers even had a chance to join in with over 50%* peak returns on Albertsons Companies Inc. (NYSE: ACI) June 17, $28 strike calls since Tuesday’s feature!

New Money Crew Weekend Watchlist: May 27, 2022

First up for the Weekend Watchlist, New Money Crew is seeing some smoke hanging around tobacco name Altria Group Inc. (NYSE: MO).

For decades, the story has been that when times get tough, people need a release. And for a lot of folks, that means having a smoke.

And judging by Altria’s chart, 2022 has been tough for everyone…

While markets have seen massive selling, MO has quietly added about 25% to its share price since December.

May has been a rough ride but the stock has rallied after two sharp sell-offs, and shares are back above the 50-day moving average for the first time since May 9.

We’re seeing a slew of bullish options bets flow into this time-tested dividend stock, so if it’s not on your radar, it should be.

Another stock that’s had a solid 2022 so far is Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. (NYSE: BMY).

The name has remained strong in the face of major selling in the biotech sector, gaining over 38% since December. 

To put that in perspective, check the chart for the SPDR S&P Biotech ETF (NYSEArca: XBI) and with the iShares Biotechnology ETF (Nasdaq: IBB) in purple. Both have lost more than 25% of their value over that same timeframe — Ouch! 

BMY will be among the presenters at the Bernstein’s 38th Annual Strategic Decisions Conference on June 2, where we might get some details about its next cancer drug review coming later in June.

And we’ve seen a few outsized options orders hitting the tape, looking for some upside ahead of these catalyst events.

New Money Crew readers keeping tabs on Blitz Daily this week won’t be surprised to see The Wendy’s Co. (Nasdaq: WEN) close out this Weekend Watchlist.

Shares of the burger baron have picked up after an ugly 12-week, 28% slide. 

The company’s largest shareholder announced Tuesday it was searching for a potential acquisition…

Whether that means Wendy’s is about to snatch up an undervalued rival or merge with one of its top competitors,… the news strapped a rocket to the stock, gaining 15% since the story broke. 

Weekly Blitz Alerts has already taken some profits on the trade… But stories like these have been some of the most explosive movers so far in 2022, so keep this square in your sights.

P.S. The market is tanking and inflation has officially reached four-decade highs…

There’s been nowhere to hide in these sell-offs, and traders holding long term are going to feel some pain — I know I have.

Thankfully, we’ve had some fantastic trades amid all the volatility that have saved the day.

We started the week off with another hat trick of winning trades for Wiretap Alerts including a nice upside gain on Quidel Corp. (Nasdaq: QDEL).

Of course, the trade of the week goes to Weekly Blitz Alerts with an absolute MONSTER return on Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT) puts…

Top Retail Stocks Plunge on Earnings

Several retail stocks including top discount chain Walmart and rival Target Inc. (NYSE: TGT) delivered dismal results for the first quarter…

But it didn’t shock everyone on Wall Street… Just before lunchtime on May 13, we spotted a massive institutional buy of the May 20 expiration, $142 strike puts for more than $360,000 in premium.

We took a position closer to the money at the $145 strike, which was trading around $2.01.

We trimmed the position on Monday as shares dipped as much $1.50 for a quick 24%* gain and held the rest, hoping for some fireworks on Tuesday’s earnings report…

Spoiler alert — there were fireworks, and they were amazing!

Walmart topped revenue expectations but inflationary pressure on its supply chain dropped its earnings to $1.30 per share — missing Wall Street expectations by about 12%.

The disappointing news cratered the stock — sinking shares more than 11% Tuesday — and sending those put premiums ripping higher.

Blitz members got the alert to sell the balance around $9 a contract on Tuesday for a HUGE 347.8% gain**… But like 16-time world’s heavyweight champion, Ric Flair who’s set to return to the damn ring at 73 years old, these options just kept going… and going…

Last I checked, those options peaked over $26 per contract.

No, we didn’t get peak gains… But I’ll take a “meat and potatoes” 347%** gain in two trading days any time!

That’s our top trade of 2022 so far, crushing our average 8.9% return and seven-day hold time per trade — including winners and losers — since we started back in 2020.

It’s always great to catch a rocket, but markets like these don’t give you a lot of time to celebrate…

New Money Crew Weekend Watchlist: May 20, 2022 

Starting off the Weekend Watchlist, New Money Crew is going to stick with our friend PayPal Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: PYPL)…

As we mentioned in Thursday’s Blitz Daily, we saw some rotation back into growth this week.

Volume picked up on Thursday with shares gaining 5%. Shares continued to gain in the premarket before losing momentum at the open and dropping 4% by midday… But I don’t mind the pullback.

PayPal is starting to form a long signal after a nasty sell-off, and we’re seeing some large call buying in the options!

While tech names have struggled through May, the augmented reality gaming platform has spent the past two weeks on a scorching rally. 

Since bottoming out around $22 per share on May 11, the stock gained more than 55% by Thursday’s close with repeat institutional buying in the options chain! 

Our third name on the New Money Crew Weekend Watchlist is EV newcomer Rivian Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: RIVN).

The stock made its debut back in November, so we don’t have a lot of history with it… But the history we do have has been explosive!

We’ve seen increased options activity in Rivian this week including some long-dated calls with lofty price targets.

Like it or not, these names are going to move with the Nasdaq… 

But with growth names so beaten down this year, don’t be surprised if these names make outsized jumps when the markets rally.
