Have We Reached the Bottom? Plus My Top Stock and Sector

by | Sep 28, 2022 | Market Updates

The major indexes are mixed as the Bank of England moves to purchase long-dated U.K. government bonds to try and stabilize the British pound — and more in Wednesday’s stock market recap.

China’s yuan fell to a new 14-year low against the dollar Wednesday. These currency fluctuations and troubles in the global economy — and the U.K. in particular — are likely why the U.S. market has been down the past few days.

And while most sectors of the market are struggling, small caps are showing their strength. And the strongest stocks among small caps right now are biotechs. They’re smaller and more speculative, but the Health Care sector isn’t as affected by changes in interest rates. Plus, their developments in the medical field will also receive funding from the government.

And speaking of interest rates, I just sat down with Joy of the Trade’s Jeff Zananiri in this week’s edition of The Big Picture With Jeff & Roger to discuss whether the Federal Reserve is done bringing the pain. Watch our session here!

In this morning’s stock market recap video, I’ll discuss why I’m focused on small caps… what needs to happen for markets to bottom out… if it’s time to short volatility… what to expect from the upcoming GDP report… an update on momentum levels and what it means for stocks… why shorting may not be the best idea… plus the top stocks right now!

99 Problems and a “Pivot” is One

A friend of mine sent me this chart about three months ago. I should probably print it and keep it in my wallet next to a photo of my daughter. Given the sheer number of questions I’ve fielded lately, I’ll probably end up showing this chart more than her picture.

Everything Everywhere, Going Down, All At Once

When our momentum reading went negative last week, I didn’t know that we’d have the second largest bank failure in U.S. history three days later. All I knew was that it went negative… and that we got out of the way.
