Institutional Traders Make Their Own Waves With High-Beta Names

by | Sep 7, 2022 | Options

In Thursday’s Blitz Daily with Lance Ippolito, we take a look at alternative energy firm Plug Power after a sudden surge in options activity.

Markets are getting a nice bounce Wednesday after a dismal start to the holiday-shortened week.

If you’ve been keeping up with Blitz Daily, it’s likely you’ve noticed we’re not seeing much in the way of directional order flow…

That shouldn’t come as much of a shock with how much of a mess it’s been out there.

And when legit moves are in short supply, the big-money traders will start taking aim at the more sensitive names on the exchange with liquid short-term options to make their own moves…

Wednesday saw massive inflows into EV and alternative energy names like our old friend Plug Power…

In the first 30 minutes after the open, my scanners spotted an institutional buyer sweep up around 15,000 contracts of the Sept. 9 expiration, $28.50 strike calls for about $450,000 in premium!

And that’s not the only stock getting bid up Wednesday… Here are the top names hitting the tape…

  • Plug Power Inc. (Nasdaq: PLUG): Sept. 9, $28.50 CALL.
  • ChargePoint Holdings Inc. (NYSE: CHPT): Sept. 9, $17 CALL.
  • ARK Innovation ETF (NYSEArca: ARKK): Sept. 9, $40.50 CALL.
  • PayPal Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: PYPL): Sept. 16, $92 PUT.

Check out my short video and I’ll break down the day’s most unusual options order flow in no time flat!

And if you’re looking for a more interactive experience, join me when I go LIVE @11 a.m. EDT Thursday, September 8 to recap our recent winning monster trades, take a look at the day’s options flow, maybe do some live trading (if the market gets some action), and I’ll make sure to answer every question YOU have!

P.S. We thought we’d seen just about everything inside the financial markets…

But this is on a whole new level!

In the past few years, these tiny arrows have made some incredible calls in the stock market…

And now, they’re causing a big stir!

Blitz Daily With Lance Ippolitto

At Weekly Blitz Alerts, we follow the big fish and what they’re buying. And we do that with my proprietary Blitz Tracker, which alerts me to big, institutional options order flow throughout the day. Then we get in on these plays and follow the “smart money.”

By doing this, we cash in whether the broader market is going up, down or sideways.

The Blitz Daily with Lance Ippolito is where I go over a handful of options trades that hit my Blitz Tracker each day, Monday through Thursday. I will break down the trade with the sexiest order flow and tell you exactly what I think can happen with that stock by the next day’s opening bell.

If you want in on these fast-moving options plays, with entry, exit and profit targets sent directly to you via text and email alerts, be sure to sign up for Weekly Blitz Alerts!

In the meantime, you can follow me @LanceIppolito on Twitter, Instagram and our YouTube channel for more trading insights and tips. And as always, you can find me right here talking stocks and options trading — and printing money — on WealthPress.com!

99 Problems and a “Pivot” is One

A friend of mine sent me this chart about three months ago. I should probably print it and keep it in my wallet next to a photo of my daughter. Given the sheer number of questions I’ve fielded lately, I’ll probably end up showing this chart more than her picture.

Everything Everywhere, Going Down, All At Once

When our momentum reading went negative last week, I didn’t know that we’d have the second largest bank failure in U.S. history three days later. All I knew was that it went negative… and that we got out of the way.

I want to talk about our version of “Trust but Verify” in the markets. Qualification is the most important part of the investing process. And this F score value strategy looks to be crushing the current market.
