Ride With the Bulls and These Top 3 EV Options Plays

by | Oct 13, 2021 | Crypto

In Wednesday’s Blitz Daily, we take a look at unusual options interest in Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers…

China has seen energy demand soar, resulting in rolling blackouts as the country tries to balance supply and demand while still meeting energy and emissions targets.

As it strives to meet those targets and become “greener,” EV manufacturing is surging… And related companies are seeing a ton of unusual options flow Thursday.

Traders came in and dropped $370,000 worth of premium on over 2,000 contracts in the Nio Inc. Oct. 29 $36 strike calls.

Nio fell to almost $33 per share earlier this month, but it seems traders aren’t worried about it returning to those levels.

While the company hasn’t been in the news lately, several of its competitors have…

BYD Auto is involved in fleet-as-a-service solutions joint venture in the U.S., where it will deploy up to 5,000 new EVs to fleet managers.

And Tesla Inc. (Nasdaq: TSLA) not only produced a record number of EVs at its Shanghai manufacturing plant in September, but it also had a record number of sales that month.

As the saying goes, “a rising tide lifts all boats.” And the EV frenzy is sending interest and buying soaring in several Chinese EV companies.

I have two more EV stocks — among other names — seeing their institutional activity go into overdrive Thursday…

  • Nio Inc. (NYSE: NIO): Oct. 29 $36 CALL.
  • Li Auto Inc. (Nasdaq: LI): Nov. 19 $31 CALL.
  • XPeng Inc. (NYSE: XPEV): Oct. 29 $42 CALL.
  • Marathon Digital Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: MARA): Oct. 22 $44 CALL.
  • Freeport-McMoRan Inc. (NYSE: FCX): Oct. 22 $36 CALL.
  • Plug Power Inc. (Nasdaq: PLUG): Oct. 29 $36 CALL.
  • FuelCell Energy, Inc. (Nasdaq: FCEL): Oct. 22 $7.50 CALL.
  • Ballard Power Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: BLDP): Oct. 15 $16 CALL.

At Weekly Blitz Alerts, we like to print money, baby! I know, I know, you’re probably thinking, “Lance, how do we do that? Print money? Come on…”

But in all seriousness, we follow the big fish and what they’re buying. And we do that with my proprietary Blitz Tracker, which alerts me to big, institutional options order flow throughout the day. Then we get in on these plays and follow the “smart money.”

By doing this, we cash in whether the broader market is going up, down or sideways.

The Blitz Daily with Lance Ippolito is where I go over a handful of options trades that hit my Blitz Tracker each day, Monday through Thursday. I will break down the trade with the sexiest order flow and tell you exactly what’s going to happen with that stock by the next day’s opening bell.

99 Problems and a “Pivot” is One

A friend of mine sent me this chart about three months ago. I should probably print it and keep it in my wallet next to a photo of my daughter. Given the sheer number of questions I’ve fielded lately, I’ll probably end up showing this chart more than her picture.

Everything Everywhere, Going Down, All At Once

When our momentum reading went negative last week, I didn’t know that we’d have the second largest bank failure in U.S. history three days later. All I knew was that it went negative… and that we got out of the way.
