Why the Bulls Are Running Out of Steam

by | Dec 5, 2022 | Market Updates

The major indexes fell to start the week as investors await key economic data — and more in Monday’s stock market recap.

We get Purchasing Managers’ Index Composite Final and Factory Orders reports Monday, with Tuesday and Wednesday bringing data on International Trade in Goods and Services and Productivity and Costs, respectively.

The latest jobless claims report comes out Thursday, which will give the Federal Reserve more information on the health of the economy heading into its next two-day meeting on Dec. 13.

Friday will bring reports on the Producer Price Index as well as Consumer Sentiment.

December’s Fed meeting is one of the most anticipated. The central bank is expected to ease rate hikes from 0.75% to 0.50%. But with inflation still high and the job market still strong, there’s concern the Fed may opt for another 0.75% hike.

In this morning’s stock market recap video, I’ll discuss why the bond market is overbought… what to expect from energy markets… if the Dow will rise or pull back… why I like industrial stocks… what to expect for the first half of the week…. And why the PPI can shape the coming weeks ahead!

P.S. The Fed Is at it Again…

In just a matter of days, the Federal Reserve is doing something that could send shockwaves yet again through the market…

Stocks could soar or plummet in a matter of minutes.

It’s already shown the power to warn investors not once, not twice, but FOUR times before the collapse of the S&P 500 back in January*…

And now it’s signaling something much more powerful — which is why Chuck has a special message he wants to share…

99 Problems and a “Pivot” is One

A friend of mine sent me this chart about three months ago. I should probably print it and keep it in my wallet next to a photo of my daughter. Given the sheer number of questions I’ve fielded lately, I’ll probably end up showing this chart more than her picture.

Everything Everywhere, Going Down, All At Once

When our momentum reading went negative last week, I didn’t know that we’d have the second largest bank failure in U.S. history three days later. All I knew was that it went negative… and that we got out of the way.
