Why The Market’s Prime to Bounce Back… Plus This Week’s Opportunities

by | May 16, 2022 | Market Updates

U.S. stock futures are flat as the market tries to recover from the continual sell-off— and more in Monday’s stock market recap.

The biggest reports this week are retail sales and industrial production on Tuesday, and the Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index report on Thursday. As I’ve said before, retail sales are important because it makes up two-thirds of the U.S. economy.

If the number is strong, it could cause stocks to rally…

But it’s all just a balance act between the Federal Reserve using higher interest rates to slow down demand and inflation, but not by so much that it pushes the U.S. into a recession.

However, if the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond (Nasdaq: TLT) starts to become choppy, which is a real possibility because it’s been losing its vertical angle, it’s a good sign that the long bond has priced in rising rates and we may have a little reprieve.

In this morning’s stock market recap video, you’ll learn whether stocks are set to rise or fall… which sector is making major headways this week… whether volatility is sinking or exploding… the full Fed update for the week… what to expect from the major sectors… and whether the bond market is helping or hurting us…

P.S. Joy of the Trade’s Jeff Zananiri is back in the saddle and going live at 1 p.m. EDT today, Monday, May 16.

He’s going to share a market phenomenon traders won’t hear about anywhere else…

In fact, no one is talking about this…

The media would rather recommend stocks that have already soared before getting crushed in  these cut-throat markets…

And today, Jeff wants to share a few tickers that are tanking…

Because they’re primed for “16-hour snapbacks!”

Don’t Miss It!

P.P.S. When it comes to trading, every second counts. And in choppy markets like these, often driven by headlines, stocks can make big moves in a flash.

99 Problems and a “Pivot” is One

A friend of mine sent me this chart about three months ago. I should probably print it and keep it in my wallet next to a photo of my daughter. Given the sheer number of questions I’ve fielded lately, I’ll probably end up showing this chart more than her picture.

Everything Everywhere, Going Down, All At Once

When our momentum reading went negative last week, I didn’t know that we’d have the second largest bank failure in U.S. history three days later. All I knew was that it went negative… and that we got out of the way.
