This Week’s Biggest Earnings and Crucial Economic Reports to Watch

by | Oct 10, 2022 | Market Updates

The major indexes are up as investors look ahead to key inflation data and earnings reports — and more in Monday’s stock market recap.

We have Consumer Price Index data coming Thursday, which will tell us how inflation is affecting consumers, as well as retail sales on Friday.

Meanwhile, earnings season begins in earnest… PepsiCo Inc. (Nasdaq: PEP) reports Wednesday while Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL) and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. (Nasdaq: WBA) report Thursday.

And we can expect earnings data from four big banks — JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM), Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE: WFC), Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) and Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) — to hit Friday morning.

In this morning’s stock market recap video, I’ll discuss the biggest news from the Federal Reserve this week… why we have low volatility to start trading… an update on China and what it means for U.S. stocks… an update on earnings coming out later this week… key levels to watch in the broad market… which sectors are leading and which are lagging… if momentum is holding steady or increasing to the downside.

P.S. Introducing ‘the Ultimate Portfolio’

It’s no secret… we’re in a tough market.

The daily volatility and uncertain outlook can be stressful, even for seasoned traders.

Which is why I’ve been researching a way to simplify investing… to slow it down.

What I uncovered were five stocks that never lost during a market crash since 2000. They’ve also outperformed the S&P 500 by more than 3,000%…

And I believe they’re positioned for another strong run.

These stocks are part of what I’m calling “The Ultimate Portfolio.”

99 Problems and a “Pivot” is One

A friend of mine sent me this chart about three months ago. I should probably print it and keep it in my wallet next to a photo of my daughter. Given the sheer number of questions I’ve fielded lately, I’ll probably end up showing this chart more than her picture.

Everything Everywhere, Going Down, All At Once

When our momentum reading went negative last week, I didn’t know that we’d have the second largest bank failure in U.S. history three days later. All I knew was that it went negative… and that we got out of the way.
