1 Long, 1 Short Trade Idea for a Market Digesting New Inflation Data

by | Oct 12, 2022 | Market Updates

The major indexes are flat, with investors concerned the most recent inflation data will drive the Federal Reserve to keep raising interest rates — and more in Wednesday’s stock market recap.

The Producer Price Index, which tells us how inflation affects U.S. businesses and the prices they pay for the goods and services they provide consumers, rose 0.4% month over month, above estimates of 0.2%.

Year-over-year PPI also came in above estimates, at 8.5% versus 8.4% expected.

We’ll also get Consumer Price Index data at 8:30 a.m. EDT on Thursday. These two reports are key as they provide the last PPI and CPI data ahead of the Fed’s next meeting on Nov. 2.

In this morning’s stock market recap video, I’ll discuss what stable sector positioning means for stocks… whether momentum levels to the downside are increasing… what to expect from the Fed on Thursday… an update on earnings revisions and whether they’re priced in… critical upside and downside levels in the major indices… plus the top stock to own, and which one to ditch!

P.S. Introducing ‘The Ultimate Portfolio’

It’s no secret that we’re in a tough market.

The daily volatility and uncertain outlook can be stressful, even for seasoned traders.

Which is why I’ve been researching a way to simplify investing… to slow it down.

What I uncovered were five stocks that never lost during a market crash since 2000. They’ve also outperformed the S&P 500 by more than 3,000%…

And I believe they’re positioned for another strong run.

These stocks are part of what I’m calling “The Ultimate Portfolio.”

And I just held a special live presentation for the full reveal — at no cost!

99 Problems and a “Pivot” is One

A friend of mine sent me this chart about three months ago. I should probably print it and keep it in my wallet next to a photo of my daughter. Given the sheer number of questions I’ve fielded lately, I’ll probably end up showing this chart more than her picture.

Everything Everywhere, Going Down, All At Once

When our momentum reading went negative last week, I didn’t know that we’d have the second largest bank failure in U.S. history three days later. All I knew was that it went negative… and that we got out of the way.
