This Week’s Big Catalysts and a Breakdown of the WILD Trading Action

by | Oct 17, 2022 | Market Updates

Investors are weighing key earnings reports after a wild week of trading — and more in Monday’s stock market recap.

Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC) and The Bank of New York Mellon Corp. (NYSE: BK) reported better-than-expected results Monday morning, following up the solid results from JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) and Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE: WFC) last week.

Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS), meanwhile, reported disappointing trading revenue.

It’s going to be a big week for tech stocks, with all eyes on International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM), Netflix Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX) and Tesla Inc. (Nasdaq: TSLA). Other names like AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T), Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ), Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) and The Procter & Gamble Co. (NYSE: PG) also report.

If earnings continue to come in ahead of expectations, investors are hoping we’ll see the market stabilize.

In this morning’s stock market recap video, I’ll discuss which earnings reports are crucial this week… if the bond market is done trading lower for the time being… how strong the downside momentum in the market is right now… what to expect the first few days of the week from the overall stock market… an update on my favorite momentum levels… plus my favorite sectors and how to take advantage of them right now.

99 Problems and a “Pivot” is One

A friend of mine sent me this chart about three months ago. I should probably print it and keep it in my wallet next to a photo of my daughter. Given the sheer number of questions I’ve fielded lately, I’ll probably end up showing this chart more than her picture.
