Extreme Divergence in These Sectors, Indexes as the Fed Preps to Meet

by | Oct 31, 2022 | Market Updates

The market is down as the Dow looks to lock in its best month since 1976, with the Nasdaq and S&P 500 also poised to end October in the green — and more in Monday’s stock market recap.

Investors are awaiting the latest round of earnings reports as the market prepares for a data-heavy week on Wall Street.

We have the PMI Manufacturing Final, ISM Manufacturing Index, ADP Employment, International Trade in Goods and Services, Productivity and Costs, and Employment Situation reports, among others.

But the biggest news this week will come from the Federal Open Market Committee meeting that starts on Nov. 2, with Wall Street pricing in another 0.75% rate hike. This news is baked into the market, as are the 50% odds of a 0.50% rate hike coming up in December.

In this morning’s stock market recap video, I’ll discuss the biggest threats and opportunities… why earnings are taking a back seat to the Federal Reserve… which sectors continue to lead… if momentum is topping out in the short term… which sectors are most vulnerable to downside pressure… which index will hold up best this week… if the bond market will collapse or trade higher… what to expect from the Fed going into the big meeting… plus how to trade this market right now for maximum stability.
