The Stocks Set to Lead the Way When the Market Bounces

by | Sep 27, 2022 | Market Updates

The major indexes are up following a five-day losing streak and the Dow and S&P 500’s lowest closes since 2020 — and more in Tuesday’s stock market recap.

This week is going to be all about the Federal Reserve. Chair Jerome Powell speaks Tuesday and Wednesday morning, while Vice Chair Lael Brainard and President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, John C. Williams, both speak Friday, among others…

We also have reports on consumer confidence on Tuesday, gross domestic product and jobless claims on Thursday, and consumer sentiment on Friday.

I’m most concerned to see how GDP holds up, especially personal consumption expenditures. We want to see this number heating up because that will indicate that people are spending more.

In this morning’s stock market recap video, I’ll discuss what’s been causing U.S. stocks to slide the past few sessions… if the bond market is finally overdone… which sector is set to hold up best during the corrections… which three sectors show the most stability… an update on market sentiment and the weekly Fed agenda… which sector remains bearish… plus the stocks I love and hate right now.

99 Problems and a “Pivot” is One

A friend of mine sent me this chart about three months ago. I should probably print it and keep it in my wallet next to a photo of my daughter. Given the sheer number of questions I’ve fielded lately, I’ll probably end up showing this chart more than her picture.

Everything Everywhere, Going Down, All At Once

When our momentum reading went negative last week, I didn’t know that we’d have the second largest bank failure in U.S. history three days later. All I knew was that it went negative… and that we got out of the way.
