Bullish Traders Scalp CMCSA Calls Hot on the Heels of Analyst Upgrade

by | Oct 13, 2022 | Options

In Thursday’s Blitz Daily with Lance Ippolito, we take a look at cable TV kingpin Comcast after receiving its latest stock upgrade.

September’s Consumer Price Index showed an 8.2% rise in its basket of goods and services year over year, down slightly from August’s 8.3% rise.

In turn, we saw stocks squeeze higher Thursday following the release of the latest inflation figures as the S&P 500 rallied around 2.4%.

The bounce had traders in a bullish mood as a flurry of call buying hit the tape early in the session.

Cable TV giant Comcast was among those benefiting from Thursday’s optimism after analysts at Citigroup upgraded the stock with a buy rating.

The news helped catapult shares of the broadband behemoth around 6% from Wednesday’s closing price as traders grabbed shares and call options by the fistful!

My scanners spotted one institutional buyer sweep up about 3,000 contracts of the Oct. 14 expiration, $29 strike call options for around $114,000 in premium!

And that wasn’t the only name getting love from the bulls Thursday…

  • Comcast Corp. (NYSE: CMCSA): Oct. 14, $29 CALL.
  • Tesla Inc. (Nasdaq: TSLA): Oct. 14, $210 CALL.
  • Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F): Oct. 28, $14.50 PUT.

99 Problems and a “Pivot” is One

A friend of mine sent me this chart about three months ago. I should probably print it and keep it in my wallet next to a photo of my daughter. Given the sheer number of questions I’ve fielded lately, I’ll probably end up showing this chart more than her picture.

Everything Everywhere, Going Down, All At Once

When our momentum reading went negative last week, I didn’t know that we’d have the second largest bank failure in U.S. history three days later. All I knew was that it went negative… and that we got out of the way.
