My Top Long and Short Trade as Volatility Shakes Up the Markets

by | Apr 27, 2022 | Market Updates

U.S. stock futures are up Wednesday morning following Tuesday’s sell-off — and more in Wednesday’s stock market recap.

Tech stocks caused Wall Street to sink Tuesday as the Nasdaq posted its largest single-session loss since September 2020, falling nearly 4%. The Dow dropped 809 points, or 2.4%, while the S&P 500 fell 2.8%.

The markets are volatile right now due to a combination of geopolitical events, earnings and of course the Federal Reserve.

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) beat earnings after the bell Wednesday, jumping more than 4% in premarket trading, while Alphabet Inc. Class A (Nasdaq: GOOGL) dropped 3.5% on a weak earnings report.

Meta Platforms Inc. (Nasdaq: FB) and Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F), among others, report earnings after the closing bell on Wednesday.

In this morning’s stock market recap video, you’ll learn which stocks to pay attention to… what market internals are pointing to… which Fed data is important this week and why… a full update on the bond market… a preview of key levels on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq… plus I’ll show you my best long trade right now, and offer a low-risk, high-reward short setup.

99 Problems and a “Pivot” is One

A friend of mine sent me this chart about three months ago. I should probably print it and keep it in my wallet next to a photo of my daughter. Given the sheer number of questions I’ve fielded lately, I’ll probably end up showing this chart more than her picture.

Everything Everywhere, Going Down, All At Once

When our momentum reading went negative last week, I didn’t know that we’d have the second largest bank failure in U.S. history three days later. All I knew was that it went negative… and that we got out of the way.
