This Week’s BIG Fed Report, Earnings, Plus Inflation Data [What You Need to Know]

by | Jul 11, 2022 | Market Updates

Futures fell to start the week as traders prepare for earnings season — and more in Monday’s stock market recap.

PepsiCo Inc. (Nasdaq: PEP) and Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL) will be the first to report earnings Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, while JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM), Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS), Wells Fargo & Co. (NYSE: WFC) and Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C) report at the end of the week.

On Monday and Tuesday, several Federal Reserve members will speak and the focus will be whether or not they seem confident in the economy, especially since their statements will come ahead of Wednesday’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) report…

The CPI will tell us how inflation is affecting consumers. The consensus this time around is 8.8%, which is relatively high — the previous reading came in at 8.6% and it caused major indexes to plummet.

In this morning’s stock market recap video, you’ll learn why bonds are more important than ever… get a critical update on the Energy sector… learn how to interpret the upcoming CPI report… a breakdown of the top earnings this week… and how I’m trading this market.

99 Problems and a “Pivot” is One

A friend of mine sent me this chart about three months ago. I should probably print it and keep it in my wallet next to a photo of my daughter. Given the sheer number of questions I’ve fielded lately, I’ll probably end up showing this chart more than her picture.

Everything Everywhere, Going Down, All At Once

When our momentum reading went negative last week, I didn’t know that we’d have the second largest bank failure in U.S. history three days later. All I knew was that it went negative… and that we got out of the way.
